If you thought life post-uni would echo those epic scenes of success at the start of Wolf Of Wall Street, you may feel a little cheated.
Without the structure of lectures and deadlines, you now have more in common with The Dude that ever before. Jeremy Kyle and joggers are your best friends. Let’s be real here, you prefer to keep it cool in your underpants.
Sound like you? It could be that you’ve found yourself in the midst of a quarter life crisis. That middling point in your twenties where things aren’t quite syncing up with the expectations you placed on yourself.
The important thing is not to panic! If you’re a JobLabber, you’re probably waiting on employers to locate your freshly-qualified behind, so here are some tips on beating those post-uni blues.
First thing’s first, get out of the house! See your friends. Reminisce, share your hopes and fears, laugh about it all. It’s likely they’re in the same boat. Of course, we know that’s not the case. You’re a member of JobLab! You’ll get to show off about all the interviews you have lined up. You can get advice on which briefs to wear. Pinstripes or polka dots? Which one says “professional”? TIP: Pinstripes. Always pinstripes.
We’re big fans of shifting tin here at JobLab, and it’s all thanks to our respective quarter life crises. Making a commitment to hit the gym or run three or four times a week could provide the structure you need, as well as being a great stress-buster.
3. Make plans
So your expectations for your 20’s aren’t matching up to where you are right now. That’s okay. This is a great time to take stock of all you’ve achieved, and think about what you might like to do next. Having time and mental space to reflect often breeds that much needed clarity which will help you decide the best steps forward.
Connect to causes that matter to you and make a positive difference in the world. What better way to spend all that free time? Plus, volunteering demonstrates your commitment to get into the working world. A surefire way to impress employers! Check out ICI for some great opportunities!
You’re back home reconnecting with family, friends and familiar places. But what about you? Right now it may feel as though you’re devoting all your time to yourself, recreating The Dude’s finest moments and all… Spending a little quality time is different.
Perhaps you were working so hard towards the end of your degree you put your extra curricular interests on the back-burner? Dedicate a little time to reading, music, ultimate frisbee – whatever you into! Just do it!*
